Bantwal, May 17: A team of police personnel from Vittal station raided a spot and seized three trucks with loads of sand on Tuesday May 16. The police team went there after having been alerted by some locals that sand trucks moving towards Kerala had been parked in a deserted spot in Kodandur near Adyanadka and drivers were taking rest there.

People had complained to Vittal station that the trucks were transporting sand into Kerala since the last some days. They took Kepu Padavu and Kollapadavu route by using a road passing near Kepu Ashram school, thus avoiding check posts and reaching Kerala through this secret route.

When two trucks were being led to Vittal through Adyanadka, drivers of two trucks emptied their trucks by the roadside near Marakkini to  prove that they were not involved with sand transportation. As such, they escaped from police action, it is said. The other truck was led to Vittal station where a case was registered.

As soon as they came to know that sand had been dumped by the roadside, locals rushed there, loaded the sand in pick-up trucks and took the loads home.
