Mangaluru, Jun 12: Incessant rain over the last few days which has affected vehicular movement has resulted in closure of Charmadi Ghat stretch.

The landslides at nine places and the fallen trees following rains in the region on Monday June 11 have caused inconvenience to the commuters leading to heavy traffic jams in the Ghat. Meanwhile, a team, led by social worker Hasanabba, is clearing the route in Charmadi Ghat.

Children and other commuters have been stranded with shortage of food.

The Shiradi ghat has been closed for highway improvement works which is yet to be opened for vehicular movement. The alternative route through Charmadi ghat often gets disrupted following landslides and huge trees getting uprooted due to heavy rains.

Those who are heading towards Bengaluru or Mysuru can take alternative route through Puttur-Sullia-Sampaje or through Bajegoli-Mala-Kudremukh. Those travelling from Udupi can take an alternative route through Bajegoli-Mala-Kudremukh or Balebare-Hulikal ghat.

The unscientific drainage works is the main reason for the landslides which causes frequent traffic disruptions in the region.
