Kadaba, Jul 11: Locals have accused police personnel and home guards manning the Hosmath bridge, which is an important link to reach temple town Subrahmanya, of violating norms and allowing vehicles to move on the bridge even when water was flowing over the bridge. In the past there had been instances in which vehicles were washed away due to the force of water on the bridge.

After water level in the river rose on Monday and the Hosmath bridge went under water, vehicular traffic between Uppinangady - Kadaba - Subrahhmanya was badly affected. At around 8 am on Tuesday, water level had suddenly risen again. Photographs and videos showing vehicles plying on this bridge even when water was flowing over the bridge on Tuesday afternoon were widely circulated. Kadaba police sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga, said that the matter has come to his notice and if negligence is proved, action would be taken against the erring personnel.

A small crack was observed on the 60-year-old bridge built across River Kumaradhara at Pulikukku on Kadaba - Panja road. Kadaba tahsildar, village accountant, revenue inspector, and several other leaders visited the spot to inspect the damage. Sullia PWD engineer, Sai Sandesh, said that this is a small crack which is not serious. He said that if rain provides some respite, this crack would be sealed shortly.
