Bengaluru: Change in climatic conditions - heavy rainfall predicted for two days

Bengaluru, Jul 11: During the next two days, heavy rain is expected in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and several parts of Uttara Kannada district. This prediction has been made by the meteorological department based on movement of cyclonic storm in southern Odisha, movement of cylone in south-east  region, and creation of low pressure area in Karnataka coast.

While the coastal belt of the state had some reprieve from rain on Tuesday, Malnad was battered by incessant downpour. After the wall of a shed crashed to the ground, a woman named Vanaja (48) from Kambihalli village in Chikkamagaluru district was killed on the spot.

After a hillock suffered landslide in Mullayanagiri range of hills, roads to several parts of the district got blocked. Rivers and rivulets in Malnad region are overflowing. Chikkamagaluru, Koppa, Sringeri, Narasimharajapura and Moodigere taluks have been receiving continuous rain since Monday evening. Holiday has been declared for the schools in these taluks.

Kodagu district has also been receiving copious rain. The confluence of rivers at Bhagamandala is overflowing. Fire brigade personnel have been deployed for rescue act . People living in low lying areas were rescued with the help of rubber boats.
