Bengaluru: Rain batters Malnad - youth washed away along with motor bike

Bengaluru, Jul 12: While rain fury has been considerably less in coastal region of Karnataka since the last couple of days, Malnad and some other regions of the state continue to be pounded by heavy rains. In a tragic incident, a youth was washed away at Basti Halla stream on Wednesday July 11 along with his motor bike. The victim of this accident was Ashok (21) from Karemane in Koppa taluk, Chikkamagaluru district.

Several hillocks have suffered landslides, which have affected vehicular movement on a number of roads. Because of incessant rainfall, the confluence of rivers at Bhagamandala has exceeded danger mark. Vehicles are not moving now between Madikeri and Ayyangeri.

Holiday has been declared for all the schools and colleges in Kodagu district on Thursday because of heavy rain.

Sullia taluk in Dakshina Kannada district received copious rainfall on Wednesday, and the bathing bay at Lord Subrahmanya temple in the taluk continued to be submerged for the third day in succession. Several parts of Udupi district experienced heavy rain coupled with strong wind on Wednesday night. Moodigere, Kalasa, and Kudremukh areas have been getting torrential rains.

A number of trees have fallen across the road between Sringeri and Agumbe, and forest officials are busy clearing the road of trees.
