Shivamogga, Sep 14: Former chairman of Karnataka legislative council, D H Shankaramurthy, has accused the election commission of trying to hold election to the legislative council in spite of technical issues involved. The commission is preparing to hold election for the three vacant seats in the legislative council.

"Attention of the BJP state and national units have been drawn towards the technical aspects of holding election to all the three seats together. The matter will be discussed with the legal cell of the party too. Experts will be consulted to find out whether fight through judiciary could be carried out against the move or whether the attention of the election commission could be drawn towards this mistake," he explained.

Shankaramurthy said that Dr G Parameshwar, V Somanna, and K S Eshwarappa, who have since been elected as MLAs, had been elected to the council in different elections. Therefore, he said that it would be wrong to hold election to all the three seats simultaneously.

"As soon as the council members take oath as MLAs, constitionally their memberships of legislative council gets cancelled. In the notification of the election, the commission has said that election is being held to the posts vacated by the resignations of these members, which is factually wrong," he added.
