Mangaluru: St Agnes to hold ‘Spectrum’ short filmmaking contest award on Jan 13

Mangaluru, Jan 12: St Agnes College (Autonomous) Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in association with Agnesian Alumni is all set to bring about positive social change with ‘Spectrum 2018’ a national level student short film-making competition.

The competition as part of St Agnes College centenary year celebrations was announced in November 2018 and the awards will be presented in a grand gala on January 13 at 5.30 pm at St Agnes College Conference Hall.

The competition has received 22 film submissions from different parts of the country of which the shortlisted films will be screened, followed by the announcing of the winners.

Cine Star Arjun Kapikad will grace the occasion as chief guest and St Agnes College (Autonomous) Principal Sr Dr M Jeswina AC will preside over the programme.

Spectrum aims to spark a social change, create awareness as well as encourage short film-making on thought provoking topics. Hence, the theme of the competition was promoting a social cause or addressing a social issue or imparting an inspirational message.

National Award Winning Film Director Abhaya Simha and Filmmaker and Writer Samvartha ‘Sahil’ are the esteemed jury for the competition.

The Best Film Prize carries a cash award of Rs 10,000 followed by the Runner-Up film which carries a cash prize of Rs 5,000. Both these prizes are named after Agnesian Alumni Vice President Mrs Geanette D’Souza, the main sponsor for the event.

Apart from the best film, trophies and cash prizes such as ‘The Motoworld Best Actor Award’, ‘Pia Artistry Best Actress Award’, ‘Mr Oswald Pinto Best Director Award’ and ‘Syndicate Bank Best Screenplay Award’ will also be presented.

St Agnes College, Mangaluru, India, the first women’s college on the west coast of India, is on the threshold of celebrating its centennial year. Founded on 2 July 1921, thanks to the vision and courage of Mother Mary Aloysia A C, the college has progressed by leaps and bounds to be one of the premier institutions of higher education in the country.
